I’d like to go back with the boots…

…Or the bike. Mallorca is without a doubt the most touristy place I have ever been. Holiday makers wherever you turn but I would love to return to the NW of the island with the bike or the walking boots and explore in the off season.

As ever when we travel we like to look for places that are slightly further away from the airport, especially on the islands. As such we ended up in-between Alcudia and Port de Plenca on the north of the island, this kept us near two busy historic towns and the coast to keep the teenagers happy and enough to explore by foot.

In the middle of the holiday we hired a car for a couple of days and off we went travelling up through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural landscape. The mountains stretche from Andratx in the southwest to the Cap de Formentor in the far north of the island and attract road bikers, mountain bikers and walkers in addition to the tourists we were playing that week. We visited monasteries, view points, beaches and Port Soller. All beautiful but if I return, as per the title, it’ll be to explore the rugged hills under my own steam.
